Tony Hadland’s Web site includes an exploded drawing and parts list for nearly every Sturmey-Archer hub ever made up through the 1980s, as well as rebuilding information for many older hubs.
10/27/2010 · If you follow the instructions for adjusting the hub from the Sturmey Archer site, tuning is pretty easy. I had to adjust mine a bunch as the cables broke in. But after that it’s been fine. Pretty easy to adjust unless your not mechanically inclined. Should take a shop a couple of minutes at most. Once mine was dialed in perfect no slippage.
The Sturmey Archer twistgrip type gear shifter seems to me to include an automatic self- adjust feature which acts to tighten the cable when there is too much slack in it. If this is not the case (and, indeed, I can’t find it mentioned anywhere) then this effect must be accidental.
